Education

CUCC’s Christian Education program offers something for everyone. The 9-month Sunday school program begins on Rally Day in early September and runs through mid-June. Classes for preschool through high school children are held during the worship service.087c The children join us for the first part of worship—the call to worship or morning prayer, a time with children, the anthem, offering, and doxology—and then adjourn to their classes. Confirmation class for middle school children is also held during the worship time.

On intergenerational worship Sundays, the children remain in worship to listen to a message designed for all ages. Children have many opportunities to participate in worship by sharing their musical talents, serving as an acolyte, helping with the liturgy or communion, and providing questions for our “Ask the Minister” sessions.

Children also enjoy performing in informal skits and CUCC’s Christmas pageant. Every year a new pageant script is written or adapted by a volunteer, often catering to the interests of the children (see list below). For about four to six weeks, Sunday school sessions are devoted to Christmas pageant preparations, rehearsals, and the performance in mid-December.064c

One-room Sunday school classes are held from mid-June to August. Volunteers develop the summer curriculum, which features a new theme each year. The summer classes focus primarily on multi-age activities, such as craft and service projects.

Year-round nursery care for infants and preschoolers is provided during the worship service. The nursery is located in a fully-equipped preschool classroom.

The adult education class typically meets on Sunday evenings. Volunteers facilitate these discussions, often using materials and multi-media resources from published study programs. Members of the congregation are welcome to lead these classes on the topic of their choice.
